Laser Tattoo Removal

Two key processes break up the ink – the pigment in your tattoo will absorb the energy from the laser and shatter apart; also, the incredibly fast pulse (6 billionths of a second!) of energy from the laser has a shockwave-like effect that assists the ink shattering. As a result, the ink acts like sugar cube breaking apart into small granules.

Once the ink is broken down by the tattoo removal laser, the body will respond by moving fluid to the area to help flush away the ink. This immune response will be obvious to the patient in the form of some swelling and redness in the area. Over the next days, weeks, and months the small, shattered ink particles will be flushed away naturally. The tattoo removal effects are not seen overnight and 99% of tattoos require multiple treatments.
All tattoos have layers of ink, stacked on top of each other within the skin. The thick concentration of pigment particles that cannot be completely broken down in one session. We go over your entire tattoo with the laser, breaking up as much ink as possible in every session. Each session will produce some level of fading, although for very new tattoos the fading may not be as visible because the ink is still so thick and dense. If your tattoo has shading, the shaded areas will vanish in fewer treatments because shaded tattoos have a lower ink density.

The fear of pain is one of the leading reasons why people do not pursue laser tattoo removal. The unfortunate thing about tattoos is that both getting them and having them taken off can be uncomfortable. The heat produced by the laser procedure is localized to a very small area but it can cause some brief discomfort. Although everyone perceives pain differently, the impact of the energy from the laser’s powerful pulse has been described as similar to being snapped by a thin rubber band.

Here at Zapn’Ink, we use the Zimmer Cryo 6, a skin cooling system intended to minimize discomfort during the procedure. It also helps prevent thermal damage to the skin from the laser and aids in the healing process. Prior to the procedure, we cool the treatment area with -30C cold air. This provides a dramatic numbing effect to the skin. Most of our clients report the pain of the procedure significantly less than anticipated, especially with the use of our Zimmer Cryo cold air machine.

Laser treatment is very effective on most types of tattoos and most colors. Generally, tattoos can be totally eliminated by laser treatment, resulting in no residual dyes or scarring. Laser tattoo removal is a new science and the latest models of lasers are more effective than earlier models. Our laser is the most advanced laser available and specifically designed to remove tattoo ink. The methodology is not simple. Different frequencies must be used for different colors of tattoo ink. It is crucial that the laser tattoo removal procedure be performed by an experienced operator who has received specialized training for this fish tattoo procedure. After the laser procedure you may experience some redness, swelling and sometimes blistering and scabbing. This is a normal process as the body works to eliminate the tattoo dyes. As new layers of skin grow, the old tattoo is pushed towards the surface. It will eventually form a scab and then disappear, leaving fresh new skin with no tattoo dyes.
It generally takes between 6 – 12 laser treatments to completely remove a tattoo, depending on the kind and color of ink used, the client’s immune system, the size and location of the tattoo and whether it was applied by a professional or an amateur. Older and homemade tattoos can take between 1-3 treatments to completely remove the ink.
We will not be able to perform any tattoo removal procedures on freshly tanned skin due to possible hypo-pigmentation complications. You must keep your tattoo out of the sun 2 weeks before any treatment and also keep it completely covered from the sun after treatment.
Absolutely; regretting having a certain name on a certain heart scroll? No problem we can take out just the name leaving a blank canvas!
Depending on the individual we always leave 6-8 weeks between each treatment. This allows your body to break everything down completely and reduces the number of treatments you will need.
